1. Where is Bloomsbury International?

Bloomsbury International is in the London neighbourhood of Bloomsbury in central London. It is two minutes’ walk from Holborn Underground station (Central and Piccadilly lines). Click here for a local map

2. Where is the accommodation?

We have good hostel and hotel and, in the summer, student residence accommodation available. Most host families 30 – 45 minutes away by public transport. Go to the Accommodation Page>>

3. Why do the prices for the General English classes change according to the time of day they are held?

The morning courses are much more in demand than the afternoon and evening courses, so we offer a discount for the afternoon classes. The syllabus, standard of teaching and classrooms are the same, though the maximum number of students in the class in the Standard Afternoon (SA) Intensive Afternoon (IA) classes is 18.

4. Do you offer part time courses?

At the moment we do not offer part time courses. The minimum number of hours you can study with us is 15 per week.

5. Do you offer children’s courses?

No. The minimum age of Bloomsbury International students is 16.

6. How do you know what my level of English is?

On arrival, you are given a grammar test, listening test and an interview with a teacher. Based on the amalgamated results of these tests, you are placed in a class that will be between level 1 and 8 (or complete beginners course).

7. Where do the students come from?

All over the world. Bloomsbury International is a truly international environment and studying with us will be your chance to make friends and contacts from many different countries.

8. How old are the students?

The average age is 26.

9. How can I pay?

Bank transfer, credit card, Sterling cheque or cash if paying in person. Credit cards have a 3% surcharge (4% for American Express).

10. Can I open a bank account?

If you study for more than 9 months, yes.

11. Who are the teachers?

Our teachers all hold internationally recognised English language teaching qualifications. At Bloomsbury International, we believe strongly that continued professional development is the key to providing effective, interesting lessons. Our teachers are sponsored to participate in further professional training, attend our weekly in-house seminars and lessons are observed regulary by our academic management team. You will find our teachers passionate, enthusiastic and committed to their students learning.

12. Do I have to buy books?

No. On your first day, you pay a deposit of £20.00 and are given the books you need for your course. If you change course or level at any time you may exchange your books at no extra charge. When you leave Bloomsbury International, you return your books and are given £15.00 (assuming the books are in good condition). This means that it costs you £5.00 to “hire” all the books you need during your stay with us. If you are taking an exam course, your books are given to you.

13. What happens if I want to cancel?

14. Can I extend my course?

Yes, but you must do so by 12.00 noon on your last day.

15. Am I allowed to get a job?

Please refer to UK government’s regulations.

16. Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance. We very much hope that your trip will go according to plan, but in the unfortunate event that some unforseen occurance should require you to either cancel or cut short your course, having insurance will provide you with peace of mind.
Travel insurance prices can be found on this page.
