A perfect course for students who wish to prepare for the Cambridge CPE exam and enhance their proficiency in English.

The CPE is the most challenging exam in Cambridge ESOL Examinations. It requires an appropriate level of educational and personal maturity and native-like fluency to pass the exam. Our Fast Track to CPE course is the perfect choice for those who want to get an insight on the skills required to be successful in the exam. Our DELTA-qualified teachers will introduce you to the complexities of the English language, work on examination techniques and test-taking strategies, and work on softening your accent.

What is CPE?

Cambridge English: Proficiency, also known as Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), is one of the most advanced qualifications. It proves you have achieved an extremely high level in English.

Cambridge English: Proficiency is made up of four papers developed to test your English skills. You can see exactly what is in each paper below.

PaperContentPurpose
Reading and Use of English
(1 hour 30 minutes)
7 parts/
53 questions
Shows you can deal confidently with different types of text, such as fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and manuals.
Writing
(1 hour 30 minutes)
2 parts Requires you to be able to write a variety of text types, such as essays, reports and reviews.
Listening
(about 40 minutes)
4 parts/
30 questions
Requires you to be able to follow and understand a range of spoken materials, such as lectures, speeches and interviews.
Speaking
(16 minutes per pair of candidates)
3 parts Tests your ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face situations.

You will receive a separate score for each of the four skills (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) and Use of English, giving you a clear understanding of your performance. These five scores are averaged to give you an overall result for the exam. Depending on which university, college or organisation you are applying to, you may be asked to achieve a specific score or grade, either overall or for a particular skill.

The exam is targeted at Level C2 of the CEFR. The examination also provides reliable assessment at the level below (Level C1). Scores between 162 and 179 are also reported for Cambridge English: Proficiency. You will not receive a certificate, but your Cambridge English Scale score will be shown on your Statement of Results.

The relationship between the CEFR levels, the Cambridge English Scale and the grades awarded in Cambridge English: Proficiency is illustrated below:
