Computer Assisted Language Learning
Computer assisted language learning is an important development for learning a language in the Internet age. Computer assisted language learning can range from online correspondence coursework or formal study through language schools, universities or colleges that offer language programs, or dedicated software that a learner can purchase in the specific language he or she wishes to learn and install it on a home computer.
The benefit of computer assisted language learning is that the student can learn the language at his or her own pace. This is a benefit for working adults or those with time commitments and family responsibilities, however it is recommended that the computer assisted language learning be used in conjunction with another form of language learning, for example one-on-one tutoring, an immersion language learning program or, at the very least, group conversations with native speakers of whom the language you want to learn converse.
It is also necessary to evaluate any type of computer assisted language learning purchase in the method of learning that works best for you. For example, for auditory learners, be sure the auditory component is adequate and the voice resonates nicely. For more visual learners, ensure that the graphics are vivid and create a richer learning experience from a visual point of view. By taking the endeavor of learning a second or third language seriously, computer assisted language learning can provide the means for study and at the very least, a level of motivation for further study that was not there before.
