Advantages of Learning Another Language
There are many advantages of learning another language. Some are well known others are less talked about but just as important, nonetheless.
First, it is clear that one of the key advantages of learning another language lies in the fact that a second or third language can advance one’s career in ways that were not before possible. In the increasingly global, competitive multicultural economic and business environment, a key advantage of learning another language is the confidence it will build in communicating with a larger percentage of colleagues and peers in your particular industry. It is often the basis of promotion and relocation to more advantageous career avenues when a person knows a foreign language. Armed with this information, one can clearly see the advantages of learning another language from a business point of view.
Second, from a personal standpoint, there are also advantages of learning another language. It is true that many great works of literature are translated from the writer’s native language to that of many other languages, so a wider audience can read his or her work. One of the lesser talked about advantages of learning another language is that you can read great works or literature or non-fiction in the language of which it was first intended. Imagine reading Einstein’s theory of relativity in German, or Dostoyevsky in Russian. This can be a great motivating factor for English speakers to learn another language, but is also useful for non-English speakers to learn a second or third language. It is often a requirement in many graduate level liberal arts programs.
There are many other advantages of learning another language. With the proper attitude, motivation and success mentality, a second or third language can be mastered and life can take on a new level of meaning and enjoyment.
